With the exhibition Trend-ology, the Museum at FIT illustrates the peculiar science of trends ranging from ever-changing prints, colours, materials, embellishments, or silhouettes, over a span of 250 years. It explores the various aspects – both cultural, economical and socio-political – which have influenced the development of trends, such as genres of music, political stances, the industrial revolution, exoticism and feminism. As for recent developments, the exhibition investigates the phenomenon of high-low fashion hybrids with Rodarte for Target as example, and the influence high-end department stores such as Opening Ceremony and Colette have on today’s fashion.
