Exhibition: “Masterworks: Unpacking Fashion”

Masterworks_exhdetail

The exhibition ‘Masterworks: Unpacking Fashion’ is on show at the MET Museum, New York, from the 18th November 2016 to the 5th February 2017.

‘Masterworks: Unpacking Fashion’ showcases a variety of fashion objects from the Museum’s collection, ranging from masterworks from the early 18th century to the present, ensembles chronologically organized and shown in packing crates and on palettes as they were just arrived at the Museum, to the ensembles donated by designers in occasion of Harold Koda’s retirement as curator in charge in January 2016. Unfolded in three galleries, the exhibition discloses how The Costume Institute has honed its collecting strategy to amass masterworks of the highest aesthetic and technical quality, including iconic works by designers who have changed fashion history and advanced fashion as an art form.
